MMS Morning News
The MMS news is presented every day before first period. It is a live news broadcast aired on TV channel 6. It is produced by the media specialist and performed by students who are selected by teacher recommendations, student applications, and auditions. The content includes lunch menu, A/B day, athletic events and scores, special events, pledge, featured student birthday recognitions. Students are rotated quarterly. Our media technology committee is currently reviewing the content and may incorporate my drama classes in the broadcast. The distribution is through CCTV. Occasionally movies are broadcast. Specials concerning some holidays, Black History, and Cinco de Mao are just some of the special features. Both teachers and students may submit content to be aired pending the principal’s approval. Our school takes full advantage of PeachStar United Streaming and Safari Montage. Paul

Hi Paul,
At the school where I volunteer I wish they were implementing the pledge, morning announcements, and the lunch menu. This is great because it gives the students opportunity to speak live on television. I believe all teachers are using United Streaming as a resource to integrate into their lessons. Digital library is a great GPB resource for teachers to download audio and media information for students to review too.
Now that is truly amazing, that they would allow the broadcast to be done live by the students. It would seem to be an opportunity for disaster, at least in the school I am at.
Paul,
I like the idea of having teachers recommend things to be aired on the school broadcast. It is a great idea to get teacher feedback on what works for the news. It would be neat for your drama class to be aired on the school news, I am sure they have some great ideas to add to the show.
I have also attended a number of schools where the students are chosen to be the morning news crew for their school. So far, I have not seen any problems. The students do quite well. I only work at the elementary level. The media specialists work with the students before hand. Shy students may actually benefit from being a news reporter. Although, I do not see anything wrong with the old PA system.
